Brundle red-faced after Hugh Grant TV series mix-up

Sky Sports presenter Martin Brundle was left red-faced after an awkward encounter with actor Hugh Grant at the 2026 British Grand Prix. The 67-year-old former racing driver, reporting from the Silverstone grid, mistakenly asked Grant about a TV series he wasn't in.

Awkward exchange on the grid

Brundle spotted Grant in the VIP section next to Queen guitarist Brian May and beckoned him over for a 'quick word'. He began by asking if Grant was with Ferrari, to which Grant confirmed he was a 'big fan' of the car manufacturer, which had invited him and his two sons to the event.

Brundle then referenced Grant's career, asking: 'Are you doing another round of The Gentlemen soon? Because I really loved that.' Grant, appearing not to hear, leaned in, prompting Brundle to repeat: 'Are you doing another series of The Gentlemen?'

Grant's clarification

Grant clarified: 'Well I did the film of The Gentlemen, I haven't seen the TV series.' A surprised Brundle responded: 'Oh right, it's really good – you really must.' He quickly ended the conversation, saying: 'I've got 10 seconds left for the national anthem. Good to see you on the grid.' Grant returned behind the red rope.

Grant starred in Guy Ritchie's 2020 action-comedy film The Gentlemen, playing Fletcher, a cockney private investigator. The film, which scores 84% on Rotten Tomatoes, follows American drug kingpin Mickey Pearson (Matthew McConaughey) looking to sell his cannabis empire. Brundle, however, was referring to the 2024 Netflix TV series of the same name, which Grant did not appear in. The series, also by Guy Ritchie, was nominated for three Emmy Awards and won one for outstanding stunt coordination for comedy programming.

Brundle's blunder

The mix-up left Brundle visibly embarrassed, but the encounter quickly became a talking point among viewers. The Gentlemen TV series is available on Netflix, while the film can be streamed on ITVX.
