GTA 6 price leak dismissed by trusted insider

A Portuguese retailer's leaked GTA 6 prices, showing five editions from €89.99 to €199.99, have been dismissed as random placeholders by a trusted industry insider. The listings, posted on Reddit and attributed to retailer Fnac, appeared to confirm speculation about the game's cost ahead of pre-orders on June 25.

Insider casts doubt on leaked prices

Insider billbil-kun, known for accurately leaking game prices and retail details, stated on X that the listings are placeholders. He noted that the EAN (European Article Number) codes do not match traditional prefixes used by publisher Take-Two for their games. "Those SKUs are just placeholders because EAN codes (like UPC in US) aren't belonging to Take2 traditional games prefixes. So those prices are random ones," he wrote.

The five physical SKUs, labeled RS1 through RS5, were listed with a November 19 release date and prices of €89.99, €99.99, €109.99, €119.99, and €199.99. The lowest price would equate to approximately £78 in the UK, matching the cost of a physical copy of Mario Kart World. However, billbil-kun's track record suggests the prices are unreliable.

Take-Two's pricing stance

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has repeatedly stated that GTA 6's price will be "very reasonable" for what is offered, countering rumors of a £100 or higher price tag. The definition of "reasonable" remains subjective, but Zelnick's comments have fueled speculation that the standard edition may cost around £70-£75.

The leaked Fnac listings have since been removed, and billbil-kun's dismissal casts further doubt on their accuracy. With pre-orders opening on June 25, official pricing from Rockstar is expected imminently.

GTA 6 release and pre-order details

GTA 6 is scheduled to launch on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Pre-orders will go live on Thursday, June 25. The game's pricing remains unconfirmed, but the insider's analysis suggests the Portuguese retailer's figures are not indicative of final costs.

Billbil-kun's reliability in leaking game prices and retail data makes his assessment credible, though there remains a possibility that the random prices could align with reality. Rockstar has not commented on the leak.
