Former Dancing on Ice professional Matt Evers left viewers stunned after a live TV slip on the Home Shopping Network in the US. The 50-year-old skater, now a presenter on the teleshopping channel, accidentally said 'getting hard' instead of 'getting old' while discussing hearing aids.
Evers quickly corrected himself, saying: 'Sorry, getting old is hard enough.' The moment passed with little comment on air, but Evers later shared the clip on Instagram with his 100,000 followers, captioning it: 'I've turned in my note for resignation. I'm sorry to all of you.'
Instagram reaction and fan comments
The post, set to the song 'Something Stupid,' drew a wave of laughing emojis and comments. Fan Geraldine joked: 'I hope you're ok at this hard… I mean difficult time.' Another follower, Rachel, said she was 'screaming' with laughter, while Victoria wrote: 'OMG. Thanks for the belly laugh – it was needed!' Some viewers noted that the gaffe was mild compared to other bloopers on the shopping channel.
Evers' career transition
Evers left Dancing on Ice in 2023 after 17 years as a professional skater, making history in 2020 as part of the show's first same-sex partnership with Ian 'H' Watkins from Steps. He also performed the debut headbanger move on the ice with Bonnie Langford. Since his exit, Dancing on Ice has been effectively axed, with ITV confirming no plans for the show to return after its 17th season.
ITV stated: 'We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the cast and crew who have worked on the show since 2006, and over the previous 17 series, for all of their hard work both on and off the ice.'
