Ted TV show races up Netflix top 10 after quiet addition

The animated comedy series Ted, a spin-off of the 2012 film created by Seth MacFarlane, has quietly entered Netflix's top 10 rankings after being added to the platform. The show, which originally aired on Peacock, is set in a 1990s high school and follows the foul-mouthed teddy bear and his teenage owner John.

Critical acclaim and ratings

The first season of Ted holds an 87 per cent rating on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, while its second season achieved a perfect 100 per cent score based on 14 reviews. On IMDb, the series currently has a 7.9 out of 10 rating. One reviewer, Kamal, called it an 'absolute game-changer', adding: 'I'm obsessed! If you're a fan of Seth MacFarlane's style, you owe it to yourself to check this out.'

Premise and content

The show continues the premise from the films: Ted came to life when eight-year-old John wished upon a shooting star. In the series, John is played by Max Burkholder, while Mark Wahlberg played the adult version in the movies. The high school antics include trying marijuana for the first time, renting porn videos, and racking up a massive bill for a phone sex line. Despite the cuddly bear animation, the show is not suitable for children.

Mixed reviews but frequent laughs

The Daily Beast praised the show for having 'quite a few more chuckles than its big-screen counterparts'. ScreenAnarchy offered a more mixed view, stating: 'Frankly, Ted is far too foul-mouthed, and strays too far into perverse behaviour, for my personal taste. Even so, the LOL moments are too frequent to ignore.' James Edward wrote: 'This might annoy some people but this series is honestly better than the first two movies in terms of its direction, humour & writing.'

Streaming availability

The first season of Ted is now available to stream on Netflix. The show originally had two seasons on Peacock, and its addition to Netflix has introduced it to a wider audience, quickly climbing the platform's top 10 chart.
