East London Passenger Fined for Heathrow Flight Assault Incident

A 35-year-old man from East London has been fined a total of £1,983 after being convicted of assaulting and abusing a flight attendant on a flight departing from Heathrow Airport. The incident occurred on July 6, 2025, aboard a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight bound for Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Disruptive Behavior During Boarding

Momnun Ahmed, of Windsor Terrace in London, became angry and confrontational when flight crew asked him not to change his clothes in view of other passengers or take videos during the boarding process. According to court testimony, Ahmed shouted obscenities at crew members, including "f*** you, I can do anything" and "I'm a British citizen, I can do whatever the f*** I want."

The situation escalated when Ahmed pushed veteran flight attendant Firoz Abir in the chest. Multiple witnesses, including flight crew and arresting officers, reported smelling alcohol on Ahmed's breath, with Mr. Abir noting the defendant "couldn't stand properly" and "was a bit slurry" in his speech.

Court Proceedings and Conviction

At Uxbridge Magistrates' Court on Monday, Ahmed was convicted of one count of assault by beating and one count of behaving in a threatening, abusive, insulting or disorderly manner toward aircraft crew. Despite denying the charges and claiming he had merely "hurt Mr. Abir's ego," magistrates found the flight attendants to be credible and consistent witnesses.

The court heard that Ahmed had been released from prison for battery "very shortly" before this incident occurred. In his defense, Ahmed stated he was traveling to Bangladesh to collect his hospitalized father and would not jeopardize his ability to fly for this purpose.

Financial Penalties and Flight Disruption

The financial penalties imposed included:

  • £600 fine for abusive language
  • £352 fine for assault
  • £381 victim surcharge
  • £650 prosecution costs

The disruptive behavior caused the flight to be delayed for more than an hour as ground staff attempted to calm Ahmed before police were called to intervene. This incident highlights the serious consequences passengers face when violating aviation safety protocols and assaulting crew members during international flights.
