Ursula Andress Files Complaint as Italy Seizes €20 Million in Assets Allegedly Embezzled
Italian authorities have executed a significant seizure of assets valued at €20 million (approximately £17.3 million) in the picturesque region of Tuscany. The assets, which include extensive property holdings, vineyards, and olive groves, are alleged to have been purchased with funds embezzled from the renowned actor Ursula Andress, who is now 90 years old.
Swiss Complaint Leads to Italian Investigation
Andress, a native of Switzerland, filed a formal complaint in her home country, asserting a progressive and significant depletion of her assets by individuals entrusted with managing her finances. This complaint prompted a collaborative investigation between Swiss and Italian law enforcement agencies.
According to a statement released by Italy's financial crimes police on Thursday, prosecutors in the Swiss canton of Vaud uncovered evidence of a systematic misappropriation of financial resources totaling around 18 million Swiss francs. This scheme was reportedly carried out through a series of opaque and complex transactions designed to obscure the illicit flow of funds.
Tracking the Funds to Tuscany
The investigation traced the embezzled money to Italy, where prosecutors in Florence took charge of the case. Police meticulously followed the paper trail, which led them to San Casciano in Val di Pesa, a scenic area near Florence. There, they identified a real-estate complex comprising:
- 11 residential and commercial units
- 14 plots of land dedicated to vineyards and olive groves
- Various works of art and other valuable assets
The judge for preliminary investigations at the Florence court fully endorsed the prosecution's position, ordering the seizure of the entire illicit profit up to the amount of 18 million Swiss francs. This seizure is to be enforced against the identified assets, marking a decisive step in the legal proceedings.
No Suspects Named Yet
Notably, the statement from Italian authorities did not identify any suspects in the case, leaving the individuals charged with managing Andress's finances unnamed at this stage. The focus remains on securing the assets and continuing the investigation into the alleged financial misconduct.
Ursula Andress's Iconic Career
Ursula Andress rose to international fame with her iconic performance in the 1962 James Bond film Dr No. In a memorable scene, she emerged from the sea onto a Caribbean beach wearing a white bikini, with a knife at her hip and seashells in her hands. This role opposite Sean Connery launched a successful career in film and television that spanned over two decades, solidifying her status as a cultural icon.
The current legal developments highlight a stark contrast to her glamorous on-screen persona, underscoring the vulnerabilities that can accompany significant wealth and fame in later life.
