Supermarket giant Aldi has unveiled plans to recruit 240 new staff members across Greater London in 2026, with management positions offering salaries as high as £69,000. This significant hiring initiative follows the company's recent announcement to open 15 new stores in the capital next year, marking a major expansion in the competitive retail sector.
Job Opportunities and Locations
The recruitment drive includes a variety of roles, such as full-time and part-time contracts for shop assistants and cleaners, along with apprenticeship programs designed for individuals seeking to enter the retail industry. Positions are available in multiple London locations, including Crayford, Shoreditch, Greenwich, Hoxton, and Orpington, providing diverse employment options for local residents.
Wage Increases and Pay Structure
Starting April 1, store assistants will earn £13.50 per hour nationally, with those within the M25 receiving £14.88 per hour. These rates will increase to £14.47 and £15.20, respectively, based on length of service, as part of a £42 million investment in employee pay for 2026. Aldi continues to lead the UK supermarket industry in compensation, being the only major retailer to offer paid breaks to all staff, though competitors like Marks & Spencer and Lidl are also implementing wage hikes next month.
Company Statements and Career Development
Kelly Stokes, recruitment director at Aldi UK, emphasized the company's commitment to fostering retail careers. "We aim to encourage more people across the UK to consider a career in retail, beginning with high-quality training and development that builds skills and confidence," she stated. "As we expand our store network, we're creating more opportunities for rewarding careers with Aldi, supported by market-leading pay, clear progression routes, and ongoing assistance."
