Alexandra Palace Unveils UK's Highest Rooftop Climb Experience

London's iconic Alexandra Palace, affectionately known as Ally Pally, is set to launch an extraordinary new attraction this Valentine's Day. Summit, described as the highest rooftop climb in the United Kingdom, promises visitors an unforgettable adventure 130 metres above sea level, with breathtaking 360-degree views spanning 25 miles across the capital.

A Guided Ascent to Unparalleled Panoramas

Created in partnership with Wire & Sky, this fully guided experience allows participants to ascend the historic palace roof in small, comfortable groups of around ten people plus an expert guide. The climb leads to the Angel of Plenty Statue, a 3.5-metre tall symbol of victory and abundance, where visitors can capture spectacular vistas of London's skyline.

From this elevated vantage point, renowned landmarks become visible including The London Eye, The Shard, Canary Wharf, and St Paul's Cathedral. Sports enthusiasts can spot numerous stadiums such as Tottenham Hotspur's ground, while the view extends to 28 of London's 32 boroughs and even parts of surrounding counties like Hertfordshire and Kent.

Safety, Accessibility and Practical Considerations

The experience begins with a comprehensive safety briefing and harness fitting, with ropes securely attached to railings throughout the ascent. While the climb itself is not physically intense and suitable for ages eight and above, visitors should prepare for challenging weather conditions.

The wind at altitude can be ferocious and chilling, requiring warm layered clothing. However, this doesn't detract from the stunning visual rewards, with ample opportunities for photography and video capture during the approximately hour-long experience from kit-up to descent.

Historical Context and Booking Information

Guides share fascinating historical insights about Alexandra Palace during the climb, revealing that the structure beneath visitors' feet - The Great Hall - has hosted everything from jazz festivals and refugee accommodation to the Brit Awards. From 2026, it will become the new home of the World Championship of Darts.

Remarkably, Alexandra Palace exceeds Buckingham Palace in both width and height, with capacity for 10,250 people. Summit offers three main climb variations:

  • Daytime Climbs for comprehensive London observation
  • Sunset Climbs to admire the golden hour
  • London Lights Climbs for after-dark experiences

Additional options include group climbs, private experiences, educational visits, fundraiser events, and special seasonal climbs for fireworks displays, New Year celebrations, and Halloween. Pricing starts at £22 for youth (8-17) and £28 for adults, with tickets now available for the February 14, 2026 opening.
