Sixes Social Cricket Bar Chain Enters Administration, Backed by Ben Stokes
Cricket Star-Backed Bar Chain Goes Into Administration

A prominent chain of cricket-themed bars, backed by England sporting stars including Ben Stokes, has collapsed into administration just days before Christmas, casting a shadow over its future.

High-Profile Backers and Immediate Closure

Sixes Social Cricket, which operates 17 venues across England and one in the West Indies, appointed administrators from FRP Advisory on Wednesday, December 19, 2025. The chain, founded by Calum Mackinnon and Andy Waugh, confirmed its Southampton location will close with immediate effect. All other sites will continue to trade as usual for now.

The business is part of the booming 'competitive socialising' sector, alongside brands like Junkyard Golf and Flight Club. Its high-profile investors include England cricket captain Ben Stokes, who invested through the 4Cast Investment Group alongside fellow internationals Jofra Archer and Stuart Broad.

Challenging Market and Rescue Hopes

In a statement, the company pointed to 'reduced customer spending' and increased market competition as key reasons for its financial troubles, despite having several high-performing sites. Administrators are now actively seeking a buyer to salvage the business.

Tony Wright, a partner at FRP, said: 'Sixes has built a strong brand in the social entertainment space with its unique venues proving very popular with customers. While some locations have struggled in an increasingly competitive market, the business has significant potential.'

He confirmed that early interest from several potential acquirers has been encouraging. The administrators' priority is to secure a future for the brand and its best-performing venues while protecting stakeholders.

What Happens Next for Customers and Sites?

All existing bookings at venues except Southampton will be honoured throughout the administration process and the festive period. The administrators have moved to reassure customers that they can continue to enjoy their planned visits.

The full list of UK Sixes Social Cricket sites currently includes:

Wright added: 'We're confident that with the right investment and focus, Sixes can build on its core strengths.' The coming weeks will be critical in determining whether a rescue deal can be secured for the beleaguered chain.
