Human Appeal, one of the UK's leading humanitarian aid charities, has announced its annual Qurbani food distribution programme for the Eid ul-Adha festival. The campaign, which has been successfully run for over 35 years, aims to provide nutritious meals to vulnerable families across Africa, South Asia, the Middle East, and the UK.
Massive Feeding Effort
Last year, the charity provided over 3.5 million Qurbani meals to more than 1.1 million beneficiaries. The programme distributes beef, lamb, and mutton to families in need, often representing the only time of year they consume meat protein. Eid ul-Adha, celebrated by approximately 2 billion Muslims globally, involves prayer, food sharing, and charity, making it one of the largest annual feeding campaigns worldwide. This year, the festival falls at the end of May.
Innovative Kabsa Qurbani for Conflict Zones
Human Appeal is introducing a new Kabsa Qurbani specifically for Gaza and Lebanon. This initiative complies with religious dietary rules and is designed for emergency conditions. Each Qurbani is performed during Eid al-Adha and transformed into up to 71 ready-to-eat Kabsa meals — a traditional Middle Eastern dish of spiced rice and meat. Each meal contains 300g of lamb and rice, cooked, seasoned, sterilised, and packed airtight with a 1.5-year shelf life, requiring no cooking or refrigeration. This makes it ideal for families without access to kitchens, fuel, or electricity.
Support for Conflict-Affected Regions
In addition to the Kabsa offering, Human Appeal will distribute beef and mutton across Lebanon, Syria, and Gaza, ensuring conflict-affected communities receive culturally appropriate, life-sustaining nutrition. UK donors can select from 20 countries to provide desperately needed meal supplies, with contributions also going to regions grappling with ongoing conflict and displacement.
