A Week in Paradise: Inside the Five-Star Long Beach Resort, Mauritius
Review: A Week at Long Beach, Mauritius

For one blissful week, I traded the grey skies and wintry chill of the UK for the unadulterated paradise that is the Long Beach resort in Mauritius. This five-star sanctuary, located on the island's eastern shore, delivered an experience that was nothing short of heavenly.

Arrival and First Impressions of a Tropical Haven

After a conveniently short drive of around an hour from Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport, I arrived at Long Beach. The immediate sensory shift was profound: a canopy of swaying palm trees, the vast, glistening expanse of the Indian Ocean, and the gentle caress of a warm tropical breeze. It was the ultimate escape, and it set the tone for the entire stay.

Mauritius had long been a bucket-list destination for me, and staying at this breathtaking resort ensured it exceeded all expectations. The five-star rating is thoroughly earned, reflected in the impeccable service from genuinely friendly staff, nightly entertainment, and a superb variety of dining venues. The resort truly seems to have thought of everything.

While I travelled with my boyfriend, finding it perfect for couples, the atmosphere was wonderfully inclusive. We encountered families with children, honeymooners, and solo travellers, all enjoying the vibrant yet relaxed vibe. Long Beach expertly caters to everyone.

Luxurious Accommodation and Resort Amenities

Our ocean-view suite was simply stunning. Waking up to the sound of the waves and stepping onto the patio to behold the endless blue was a daily delight. The room was exceptionally spacious, featuring a separate living area and a large bathroom with a walk-in shower. The resort boasts 255 suites, all decorated in natural tones. Guests can choose from garden-view Junior Suites or opt for ground-floor suites with direct beach or garden access, with interconnecting options ideal for families.

Beyond the room, the resort's facilities are exceptional. There are three outdoor pools, including a spectacular adults-only infinity pool that offers mesmerising views over the long, white-sand beach. Lounging on the distinctive domed sunbeds here was a particular highlight.

The resort is rooted on a kilometre-long beach, where I spent hours swimming. The range of complimentary water sports is impressive, from snorkelling and kayaking to unique experiences like glass-bottom boat rides. For ultimate relaxation, the on-site GLOW Spa is a sanctuary. My partner and I indulged in a couple’s massage amidst serene waterfall features and palm trees—a slice of paradise within paradise.

Exploring Beyond the Resort: Excursions and Dining

As idyllic as the resort is, exploring Mauritius is a must. The hotel's excursion team expertly organised our trips. A standout was a visit to the breathtaking private island, Île aux Cerfs, accessible by a short boat ride, where we spent a sublime day relaxing under palm trees.

Another day was packed with iconic sights: the lush Black River Gorges National Park, the surreal Chamarel Seven Coloured Earths, the majestic Chamarel Waterfall, and the Rhumerie de Chamarel distillery. The landscapes were insane, and the rum tasting was great fun. We also enjoyed a guided trip to Flic en Flac market with one of the resort's chefs, sampling sugar cane juice and pickled fruit while learning about Mauritian cuisine.

Back at the resort, the activities continued. We took a cooking class with the head chef and a cycling tour to nearby Bras d'Eau National Park, where we encountered giant tortoises. Evenings were a delight with a fantastic choice of restaurants requiring prior booking. Options include the buffet-style Le Marché, Asian fusion at Chopsticks, exquisite Japanese at Hasu, the beachfront Tides, Italian at Sapori, and the lively Shores bar for evening entertainment.

This holiday was the perfect fusion of luxury, relaxation, and adventure. We were so captivated that we're already planning a return to explore another coast of Mauritius. If you're seeking a slice of heaven on earth, Long Beach is the destination. Junior Suites start from £317 per night on a half-board basis, inclusive of a vast array of activities and kids' club access. Direct flights with Air Mauritius from Gatwick or British Airways from Heathrow make this paradise remarkably accessible.
