Spitalfields Market to Welcome New Working Distillery with Crowdfunding

A brand-new working distillery is set to arrive at Spitalfields Market in late 2026, promising an immersive experience where visitors can watch spirits being made and enjoy them on-site. This exciting development aims to blend food, drink, and craft in the heart of East London, enhancing the market's reputation as a hub for independent makers.

Community Ownership and Sustainability Focus

In a move that reflects Spitalfields' community-driven spirit, locals are being invited to invest in the project through a Crowdcube campaign running until March 30. Early backers will gain access to exclusive tastings, launch events, and behind-the-scenes previews. The distillery, led by the teams behind ALFI and Player's Social, will produce gin, vodka, and rum on-site, emphasizing sustainability by cutting supply chains and offering a transparent view of the production process.

Jason Dervin, Spitalfields Estate Director, highlighted the project's alignment with the market's evolving identity: "Spitalfields has always been shaped by its community. The launch of a distillery feels like an exciting next step, creating something new for people to experience together." Each bottle will pay tribute to the market's 350-year history, with designs inspired by Spitalfields' heritage and East London edge.

Immersive Experience and Local Impact

Set within ALFI, a popular terrace restaurant at the centre of the market, the distillery is designed to offer a fully immersive "watch it being made, then drink it" experience. Visitors will be able to observe the entire distillation process in real time, from start to final pour, just steps from where the spirits are served. This initiative builds on Spitalfields' long-standing legacy as a destination for unique and authentic offerings, further cementing its cool factor in East London's vibrant scene.
