Guest Pays £45 for Full English Breakfast at The Savoy

A man who ordered a full English breakfast at The Savoy, the prestigious five-star hotel in central London, was left stunned by the price he paid. The cost of the meal, which included coffee, orange juice, sourdough bread, and a pain au chocolat, has sparked a lively debate online.

The full English breakfast is a beloved British staple, typically featuring bacon, sausages, eggs, hash browns, mushrooms, grilled tomatoes, and baked beans. Black pudding and toast are common additions, and vegetarian or vegan versions are also widely available.

The Savoy, located on the Strand in Westminster, is renowned for its luxurious Edwardian and Art Deco design, exceptional service, and historic grandeur. It offers acclaimed dining experiences, including its famous Afternoon Tea.

The guest, who shared his experience on Reddit's Fry Up subreddit, posted a photo of his plate showing one sausage, two fried eggs, bacon, beans, a grilled tomato, one large mushroom, and two hash browns. He noted that the breakfast also included coffee, orange juice, sourdough, and a pain au chocolat. While he praised the quality of the sausage, bacon, eggs, hash browns, and mushroom, he found the tomato underdone and the beans not Heinz, though they were still good.

He mentioned that the nearby Simpson's restaurant offered a breakfast for £28, which he believed would be at least as good, but he had already paid for breakfast on both mornings of his stay.

Reddit users were quick to react, with many expressing shock at the £45 price tag. One commented, '£45!!!! That is a lot of money for a basic looking breakfast.' Another said, 'I'm currently staying in a pretty basic all inclusive hotel in Spain and this doesn't look much different.' A third user wrote, 'I'd be fuming.'

However, some defended the cost, noting that The Savoy is a luxury hotel where rooms start at around £500 per night. One user explained, 'It's never going to be cheap and if you're wealthy enough to stay there, you can afford the £45.' Another added, 'It's a rip off but it's the Savoy and those eggs look perfect to me.'

The original poster concluded that it was a 'good breakfast,' with the only complaints being a slightly dry sausage and an underseasoned, undercooked tomato. He praised the incredible room, lovely staff, and good food, saying he had no complaints overall.
