Aldi has introduced a strict new purchasing rule for shoppers hoping to bag a bargain bottle of champagne this Christmas, after unprecedented demand for one of its top-rated festive tipples.
The Festive Favourite Causing a Stir
With Christmas and New Year celebrations on the horizon, sales of sparkling wine are naturally on the rise. However, one particular bottle at the budget supermarket has seen an extraordinary surge in popularity. Aldi's Nicolas de Montbart Champagne Brut has seen sales rocket by 76% as customers stock up for the party season.
This surge has prompted the retailer to implement a fair-purchase policy to ensure as many customers as possible can enjoy the deal. The new restriction limits each customer to a maximum of four bottles of the Nicolas de Montbart Champagne.
An Award-Winning Bargain
The champagne in question is a blend of three classic grapes: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier. Aldi describes the resulting drink as an "easy-drinking, aperitif-style sparkling" wine, perfect for toasting the festive season, with notes of bright fruit and delicate flowers.
The real draw is its price. Originally priced at £13.99 for a 75cl bottle, it has been reduced to just £9.99 until December 25th. This follows the success of Aldi's other champagne offering, the Veuve Monsigny Champagne Brut, which was crowned a winner at the World Drinks Awards 2025.
What the Experts and Shoppers Are Saying
The low-cost champagne has garnered significant praise online for its value and flavour. Popular TikTok reviewer @fragrantnerd highlighted its "plenty of biscuit notes" and "some almond", concluding it was "really lovely".
On the review platform Vivino, user Stephen Bustin called it "unbelievable value" with "lots of bubbles", though noted it lacked "lots of body". Meanwhile, Rosamund Hall commented, "For the money, I’d take this over any prosecco at the same price."
The Facebook page Affordable Wine Hunter also urged followers to "Catch it if you can," confirming it is a genuine champagne they rate, albeit simpler than more expensive counterparts.
The bottles are available in Aldi stores now, but shoppers are advised to move quickly as stock is subject to availability. With the new four-bottle cap in place, those planning a large festive gathering might need to supplement their supplies with other options.
