Tesco Adds 'Melt in Your Mouth' Tim Tams to £3.85 Meal Deal
Tesco adds Tim Tams to £3.85 meal deal

Supermarket giant Tesco has given its customers a delicious new reason to get excited about lunchtime, announcing a major shake-up to its popular meal deal. The retailer has added the iconic Australian biscuit, the Tim Tam, to its £3.85 lunch offering, giving sweet-toothed shoppers a new dessert option.

The New Sweet Treat on the Block

For the price of £3.85 (with a Clubcard), customers can now enjoy a Tim Tam as part of their classic meal deal combination of a main, a side, and a drink. The biscuit, which first arrived in the UK last year, has been a staple in Australia since 1964, created by the company Arnott's.

Famous for the 'Tim Tam Slam' – where you bite off opposite corners and use the biscuit as a straw for your tea – this chocolatey treat is now available in a convenient twin-pack format. Outside of the meal deal, the Tim Tam Original twin pack will retail for £1, but this price is exclusive to Tesco Express stores.

Amber Dutkiewicz, the Tim Tam Market Development Manager for the UK and Ireland, commented on the launch, stating: "Tim Tam has proven to be incredibly popular in the UK since our launch last year, and the demand to have Tim Tam in an on-the-go format has been strong." She added, "We're excited to offer the opportunity to enjoy Tim Tam in a travel-friendly, snack-sized two-biscuit pack format that is also available in the iconic Tesco Meal Deal."

A Hit with British Shoppers

The addition has been met with enthusiasm from UK consumers, many of whom hail the biscuit as superior to the British classic, Penguin. On social media platform Reddit, one user expressed their devotion, saying, "I am addicted to them. So much so that I go to a big Tesco that's quite out of the way just to get them."

Another fan described them as "fabulous," noting they "always had a ready supply of them" sent from family in Australia. They praised the Tim Tam for having a "better biscuit, better filling and better variety of flavours" than its UK counterpart. Gluten-free versions have also received rave reviews, with one chocolate lover describing them as "melt in your mouth" material.

Earlier this year, the range expanded further with the introduction of a Sweet & Salty Tim Tam flavour. This unique product combines the classic chocolate filling with a savoury cracker inspired by another Australian icon, the Jatz biscuit.

More Than Just Biscuits

The Tim Tam isn't the only recent exciting addition to the Tesco meal deal. In a move that broadened the definition of a 'side', Tesco also added Pot Noodles to the selection in March of this year. However, there is a catch: the instant noodle snack is only available in selected stores across the UK, and only in the Chicken & Mushroom flavour.

This strategic refresh of the meal deal components demonstrates Tesco's commitment to keeping its popular lunchtime offer relevant and exciting, responding directly to customer demand for both international flavours and convenient, on-the-go snacks.
