Daring Rescue in Dagestan as Men Save Boy from Submerged Taxi
In a remarkable display of bravery, three men in Dagestan, Russia, have been hailed as heroes after rescuing a young boy from a taxi that had plunged into a freezing canal. The incident, captured on video, shows the group working swiftly to prevent a tragedy in the icy waters of the October Revolution Canal in Makhachkala.
Precarious Operation in Freezing Conditions
The rescue unfolded when the taxi, carrying a mother and her child, veered off the road and into the fast-flowing canal. Eyewitness footage reveals the three men hanging precariously over a metal pipe above the water to reach the partially submerged vehicle. As the taxi floated downstream, they managed to lift the boy through an open window, keeping him from falling into the cold river.
One of the rescuers, despite the freezing temperatures, stripped down to his underwear to facilitate the operation. The child was then hoisted up and passed along by the men towards the canal bank, where he was brought safely to shore. Russian news site Izvestia reported that the boy's mother and the taxi driver, who remained trapped in the car, were later saved after rescuers entered the water with a rope to assist them.
Taxi Driver's Account of the Accident
Nurislam Ramazanov, the taxi driver, explained that he lost control of the car after skidding to avoid a parked vehicle obstructing the road. He was taking the mother and her child to the hospital at the time, and his brakes failed during the incident. Ramazanov praised the rescuers, noting that the boy remained unscathed thanks to their quick actions.
'The child went out the window first. The guys caught him. The child, one might say, did not get wet because there was no water in the cabin. The baby was dry,' he told reporters.
Community Praise and Rescuer's Background
One of the rescuers has been identified as Assadulla Magomedov, who previously trained at an MMA school in Makhachkala named after the renowned coach Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov. Witnesses have commended the three men for their quick-thinking under pressure, with some locals describing the event as 'an ordinary day for Dagestan,' highlighting the region's strong community bonds.
This heroic act underscores the importance of community response in emergency situations, particularly in challenging environments like the icy canals of Dagestan.
