HKSTP Launches Innovation Gateway at VivaTech 2026
Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) has established an Asia-Europe innovation gateway at VivaTech 2026, one of Europe's largest technology conferences. The initiative aims to strengthen cross-border collaboration and provide a platform for Asian startups to access European markets.
At the event, HKSTP showcased over 30 startups from its ecosystem, spanning sectors such as artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and smart city technologies. The delegation aimed to connect these startups with potential investors, partners, and customers from Europe and beyond.
Strategic Importance of the Gateway
The Asia-Europe innovation gateway is designed to facilitate technology transfer and knowledge exchange between the two regions. According to HKSTP, the initiative aligns with Hong Kong's role as a super-connector between China and the global market. The park's CEO emphasized that VivaTech provides an ideal platform for Hong Kong startups to demonstrate their capabilities on an international stage.
HKSTP's participation at VivaTech 2026 is part of a broader strategy to expand its global network. The park has previously engaged with innovation hubs in Silicon Valley, Israel, and Southeast Asia. The new gateway is expected to create more opportunities for collaborative research and development.
Startup Success Stories and Impact
Among the startups presented, several have already secured funding or partnerships as a result of the event. One notable example is a biotech firm that developed a rapid diagnostic tool for infectious diseases, which attracted interest from European healthcare providers. Another startup specializing in AI-driven logistics solutions signed a memorandum of understanding with a French logistics company.
The initiative is also expected to boost Hong Kong's reputation as a leading innovation hub in Asia. By fostering connections with European tech ecosystems, HKSTP aims to attract foreign direct investment and talent to Hong Kong. The park reported that over 200 business meetings were arranged during VivaTech, with an estimated potential deal value of HK$500 million.
Future Plans and Expansion
HKSTP plans to build on the momentum from VivaTech 2026 by organizing follow-up events and workshops in Hong Kong. The park also intends to establish a permanent presence in Europe to support ongoing collaboration. This includes setting up a dedicated desk in Paris or Berlin to assist startups with market entry and regulatory compliance.
The Asia-Europe innovation gateway is part of a larger trend of increased tech cooperation between the two continents. With the rise of digital transformation and sustainability goals, cross-border partnerships are becoming more critical. HKSTP's initiative is expected to serve as a model for other innovation hubs seeking to bridge regional gaps.
