London-based artificial intelligence infrastructure company Nscale has successfully raised $2 billion in Series C funding, significantly increasing its valuation to an impressive $14.6 billion. This substantial financial injection arrives as the United Kingdom intensifies its efforts to establish itself as a dominant force in the global artificial intelligence computing competition.
Strategic Investment and High-Profile Backers
The funding round was spearheaded by Aker ASA and 8090 Industries, with additional support from several heavyweight technology investors. These include industry titans Nvidia, Dell Technologies, Lenovo, Citadel, and Point72. The capital infusion is specifically designated to accelerate Nscale's ambitious expansion of large-scale AI infrastructure projects worldwide.
The company plans to develop advanced data centers across Europe, North America, and Asia. This represents a remarkable achievement for a firm established less than two years ago, which has rapidly ascended to become a central player in Britain's burgeoning AI infrastructure sector.
Founder's Vision and the AI Revolution
Founder and Chief Executive Josh Payne articulated the transformative nature of this moment. "This is the fourth industrial revolution; the world is changing at a rapid pace," he stated. "Over the next five years, artificial intelligence will be integrated into every industry, every product, and every job. This integration is driving the largest infrastructure buildout in human history."
Alignment with UK Government Strategy
The funding success coincides with the UK government's strategic push to position the nation as an "AI maker rather than an AI taker." Ministers are actively seeking domestic companies capable of supporting the enormous computing capacity required to train and operate advanced AI systems. Nscale has emerged as a cornerstone of this national strategy.
The homegrown firm is collaborating with Microsoft, OpenAI, and Nvidia on several major AI infrastructure initiatives. A flagship project includes the development of the UK's largest planned AI supercomputer, located in Loughton, Essex. This facility is projected to host tens of thousands of Nvidia GPUs and deliver up to 90 megawatts of AI compute capacity at full scale.

Nscale had previously committed £2.5 billion of investment into the UK as part of its broader data center expansion strategy announced last summer. The company is also a key participant in the Stargate Norway project, a major AI compute hub designed to provide large-scale infrastructure for AI model training powered exclusively by renewable energy sources.

Concurrent with the funding announcement, Nscale revealed the appointment of three high-profile figures to its board of directors. The new board members are former Meta executives Sheryl Sandberg and Nick Clegg—who also served as UK Deputy Prime Minister—alongside former Yahoo president Susan Decker.
This trio brings extensive experience spanning global technology corporations, corporate governance, and technology policy. Nick Clegg, previously president of global affairs at Meta, has been deeply involved in regulatory discussions concerning AI and digital governance frameworks.

The enormous capital flowing into data infrastructure underscores the critical importance of computing capacity as the fundamental backbone of the AI economy. Access to reliable energy sources and the immense pressure AI technology places on power grids have long been identified as central bottlenecks threatening AI development.
