Sister's Heartbreaking Tribute to Artist Found Three Years After Disappearance

The family of a 'rebel' artist who vanished three years ago has released an emotional tribute following the discovery of her body in Liverpool. Delia McInerney, aged 64, is believed to have died around April 2023, but her remains were only located by police on January 8, 2026, during a search of a flat in Gerards Court, St Helens.

Family's Emotional Statement

Rita McInerney, Delia's sister, described her late sibling as 'a rebel – intelligent with a dynamic personality, kind, caring and helpful'. She added, 'She was well-loved as a sister and friend. I will miss her always.' Rita further highlighted Delia's artistic spirit, noting she was 'a great artist, a free spirit, really "out there"', emphasizing her unique character and the deep loss felt by those who knew her.

Police Investigation and Charges

McInerney had resided in a house on Douglas Road in Anfield, Liverpool, which was previously searched by Merseyside Police after she was reported missing. In a significant development, on Saturday, Merseyside Police announced that George Gordon, 65, of Gerards Court in St Helens, has been charged with McInerney's murder. Additionally, he faces three counts of fraud and one of theft. Gordon had already been charged with preventing the lawful and decent burial of a body and obstructing a coroner prior to these new allegations.
