Cathy Newman Joins Sky News to Front 7pm Politics Show
Cathy Newman joins Sky News for flagship politics show

In a major move for British broadcast journalism, Cathy Newman is set to join Sky News. The acclaimed presenter and investigative reporter will take the helm of the channel's flagship 7pm politics programme.

A New Chapter for a Prominent Broadcaster

Newman leaves Channel 4 News after a landmark two-decade tenure, where she made history as the programme's first female main presenter. Her career began in print journalism at the Financial Times before she transitioned to television.

At Sky News, her role will extend beyond the daily politics show. She will also launch and present a new podcast and dedicate time to long-form investigations and documentaries, areas where she has built a formidable reputation.

A Record of Fearless Journalism

Newman is renowned for her incisive interviewing technique and a strong track record of breaking major stories. Her investigative work has often focused on powerful institutions and high-profile legal cases.

Some of her most notable investigations include an eight-year probe that unmasked John Smyth QC as the most prolific abuser in the Church of England. She also led reporting on sexual harassment claims involving Liberal Democrat peer Lord Rennard and an investigation into British sex offender Simon Harris, which contributed to his 17-year prison sentence.

Excitement for the Future at Sky News

Expressing her enthusiasm about the new role, Newman said: "I'm thrilled to be joining the incredible, multi-award-winning Sky News team. There couldn't be a more exhilarating time to return to Westminster, and I'm hugely looking forward to bringing in exclusive interviews and investigations on a brand new programme, and launching a podcast too."

Sky News Executive Chairman David Rhodes welcomed the appointment, stating: "Cathy has broken some of Britain's biggest stories and brings a clear, engaging style that audiences trust... Our future plan requires just the kind of premium investigative and political expertise that Cathy will bring to our team."

Further details regarding the new programme's format, the podcast, and an exact launch date are expected to be confirmed later in 2026. The announcement was made on Wednesday 14 January 2026.
