BBC newsreader and Mastermind host Clive Myrie has delighted fans by sharing a juicy piece of behind-the-scenes gossip: two contestants from the iconic quiz show struck up a romance after filming wrapped.
The Wine-Fuelled Revelation
The revelation came during a light-hearted appearance on Saturday Kitchen on the weekend of January 18, 2026. After enjoying a few glasses of wine, the 61-year-old presenter, who has fronted Mastermind for five years, began sharing anecdotes about his time on the show.
After praising the programme and mentioning the diverse range of winners, from contestants in their 20s to others in their 60s, Myrie let slip a tantalising detail about the most recent series. "The winner last season, and one of the finalists, they… got it on!" he exclaimed, to uproarious laughter from fellow guests Tom Parker Bowles, Suzie Lee, and Adam Byatt.
The Mastermind Love Story
Myrie was referring to John Robinson, the champion from the previous season, and fellow finalist Claire Reynolds. According to the host, the pair are still together, prompting him to joke about needing a new suit, much like the late Cilla Black did on Blind Date.
The couple's connection began after a fiercely competitive final, which saw Robinson clinch victory by a single point. Filming had taken place in Northern Ireland, and they reportedly had little time to interact during the intense recording process, exchanging only brief pleasantries.
However, everything changed on the journey home. "Chatting on the flight back to Birmingham afterwards" provided the perfect opportunity for their relationship to blossom. Speaking to BBC Midlands Today last year, John Robinson reflected on their attraction, suggesting that their similar personalities drew them together.
Viewers React to the Gossip
Myrie's cheeky 'spilling of the tea' was met with widespread amusement online. Viewers took to social media to praise the presenter's candid moment.
One user, Imogen Mays, declared on X that she was "obsessed" and expressed a desire to "get wine drunk with Clive." Former contestant Christopher McBride humorously noted that his own experience on the show was "definitely a bit less eventful." Another fan, Nell Nickson, simply wrote: "Oh to be a few wines in and spilling tea with Clive Myrie."
The BBC anchor was on Saturday Kitchen primarily to promote his new travel series, African Adventure, which follows his previous programmes exploring the Caribbean and Italy. His 2023 show, Italian Road Trip, had drawn comparisons to Stanley Tucci's culinary travels, which Myrie good-naturedly addressed at the time, highlighting the differences in their focuses.
