In a major revelation for soap fans, Coronation Street stalwart Jack P Shepherd has reportedly inked a fresh contract, securing his future on the cobbles and strongly indicating his character's survival in the upcoming dramatic crossover.
Contract Secures Platt's Future
According to reports in The Sun, the actor, who has played the troubled David Platt since the year 2000, has agreed to stay with the ITV soap for at least another year. This new deal takes his tenure well beyond the scheduled date for the highly anticipated Coronation Street and Emmerdale mash-up episode, dubbed 'Corriedale'.
The special episode, set to air in 2026, will see a multi-vehicle pile-up ensnare residents from both Weatherfield and the Emmerdale village, with producers confirming that not every character involved will make it out alive. However, Shepherd's new contract strongly suggests that David Platt will be among the survivors.
Platt Family Drama Continues
David's life on the street is never simple. Recently, he and his wife Shona Platt (Julia Goulding) received devastating news that their unborn baby has a tumour. The only possible surgery carries a significant risk to Shona's life, leaving the couple in an impossible situation.
While Shona is determined to carry the pregnancy to term and has kept the diagnosis a secret, David has struggled with their decision. His inability to cope with the pressure led him to reveal the truth to family and friends, fracturing the couple's united front.
Both David and Shona are confirmed to feature in the Corriedale episode. In the recently released trailer, they are seen receiving assistance from Emmerdale's trainee doctor, Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant), amidst the chaos of the crash.
Shepherd's Winning Streak
The news of Jack P Shepherd's contract renewal comes after a successful year for the 37-year-old actor. He took a break from his Coronation Street role earlier in 2025 to enter the Celebrity Big Brother house, where he went on to win the entire series.
As the countdown to Corriedale begins, fans can rest assured that one of the soap's most enduring characters, the son of Gail Platt and father to Max and Lily, will be navigating the drama for the foreseeable future. Metro has contacted Coronation Street representatives for official comment.
