Emmerdale actor Danny Miller has issued a light-hearted rebuke to critics of the upcoming Coronation Street and Emmerdale crossover, dubbed 'Corriedale'. The star, who plays Aaron Dingle, shared an anecdote about a sceptical fan as anticipation builds for the historic one-off special set to air on ITV.
Star Claps Back at Crossover Doubters
Speaking to Metro and other publications, Miller recalled a recent encounter at an M62 service station. "I had one guy... who said to me, 'I don't think it's going to work'," the actor revealed. His playful response was to ask the man's profession. Upon learning he was an HGV driver, Miller joked, "Well I wouldn't tell you how to drive an HGV!"
Miller found it "really interesting" that people were forming strong opinions without having seen the episode or knowing the script. His comments highlight the intense scrutiny and high expectations surrounding the project, a major milestone in ITV's history.
A 'Premium' and 'Stunning' Spectacle Promised
ITV's Executive Producer for Continuing Drama, Iain MacLeod, has overseen Corriedale from its inception. He emphasised the team's ambition to create a "premium feel" for the hour-long episode, showcasing the soaps' visual aesthetic and storytelling craft.
"We started off with a list that looked at the best things that could happen in a soap. Affair reveals, murder reveals... we thought wouldn't it be great if we could have all of these? We had a good go!" MacLeod explained at the premiere. He confidently stated, "If anyone looks down their nose at the soap genre after watching that I'll write to them!"
Explosive Drama and Intertwined Fates
The stage is set for a dramatic collision of Britain's two most famous streets. A recent trailer confirms an explosive multi-vehicle pile-up will bring the characters together in a moment of high-stakes crisis.
In the lead-up, key storylines are converging. In Emmerdale, Charity Dingle's (Emma Atkins) baby secret is poised to explode. Over in Weatherfield, Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney) is preparing for her wedding day. The chaos will see Carla Connor (Alison King) escaping captivity straight into the carnage, while Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant) aids a pregnant Shona Platt (Julia Goulding) at the roadside.
The consequences of this unprecedented crossover event are promised to ripple through both soaps long after the credits roll on the special episode.
Corriedale is scheduled to air at 8pm on Monday, January 5, 2026, following Emmerdale at 7pm and Coronation Street at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
