Strictly's Kate Garraway Still 'Triggered' by Show Music After 17 Years
Kate Garraway 'triggered' by Strictly music after 17 years

Good Morning Britain presenter Kate Garraway has made a surprising confession about Strictly Come Dancing, revealing that one particular aspect of the hit BBC show still affects her deeply nearly two decades after her appearance.

The Sound That Still Haunts

The 58-year-old broadcaster reunited with her former professional dance partner Anton du Beke on Strictly's sister show It Takes Two on BBC Two earlier this week. Despite maintaining her love for the ballroom competition, Garraway didn't hold back when describing what continues to make her feel uneasy.

Speaking to host Janette Manrara, the journalist explained: 'I love it. Although I'm still slightly triggered from the opening music. 17 years ago I was on the show and I still feel sick every time I hear it!'

Garraway competed in the fifth series of Strictly Come Dancing back in 2007, and her visceral reaction to the programme's iconic theme music demonstrates the lasting impact of her experience.

From Dance Floor to Traitors' Castle

The television personality recently became a fan favourite on BBC's Celebrity Traitors, which concluded its thrilling run on Thursday. Following her banishment from the psychological gameshow, Kate opened up about her experiences filming in the Scottish highlands.

During her time on the programme, a bond with fellow contestant Cat prompted Garraway to explore a possible condition she might share. 'Talking to people like Cat about their music and about their life—she's autistic and ADHD, and I've got that in my family,' Kate began in an interview with The Sun On Sunday.

'And actually, I'm in the process of an ADHD diagnosis myself. In fact, I think it's pretty clear I am.' She added that it was 'fascinating to see how it manifested for her.'

Strictly Memories and Crossovers

Reflecting on her Strictly experience, Garraway offered advice to current contestants Vicky Pattison and Kai Widdrington, explaining how they needed to show 'fierceness and passion' in their Tango.

She quipped about her own performance: 'The judges said I looked like I was coming round from a general anaesthetic when I did mine. I just went into a zone rather than fierce.'

In another connection between the two hit shows, Alan Carr—who won Celebrity Traitors and took home £87,500 for Neuroblastoma UK—is reportedly being lined up to appear on Strictly Come Dancing. The final of the hugely popular gameshow amassed a whopping 11 million viewers, becoming the biggest TV episode of 2025 before iPlayer data was even added.

Strictly Come Dancing continues to air on Saturdays on BBC One, while the spin-off Strictly: It Takes Two appears on weeknights on BBC Two. Both shows remain available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
