The BBC's smash-hit reality show The Traitors has returned with its fourth series, bringing with it a fresh wave of intense drama, shocking banishments, and, of course, a whirlwind of elaborate fan theories. Hosted by Claudia Winkleman, the show made a stunning comeback last week, featuring one of the most heated roundtables to date.
This year, the game has been complicated by the tantalising introduction of a red-cloaked Secret Traitor, a mysterious player whose identity is hidden from both Faithfuls and viewers alike. This twist has sent the show's dedicated fanbase into a detective frenzy, scouring every episode for clues.
Ellie: The Psychologist Under Scrutiny
One of the most popular suspects among viewers is the psychologist, Ellie. Fans were already suspicious of a potential pre-existing connection between Ellie and fellow contestant Ross, after a LinkedIn post surfaced showing them together. Ross had commented supportively on several of Ellie's work updates, suggesting a prior relationship.
However, the theory gained more traction after her recent interview behaviour. On Facebook, fans like Karen Forgham and Josh Murphy argued that Ellie "gave away" her secret role during these segments. Linda Evans theorised, "I wonder if it was part of her secret mission as The Secret Traitor, to mention it."
Fiona: The Unusually Calm Contender
Another player drawing significant suspicion is Fiona, the 62-year-old local government officer from Swansea. While her chatty personality has won her fans, her demeanour in the game has raised eyebrows.
Viewer Steve Etheridge pointed out that Fiona "mentioned two traitors names out the blue" and appears to be "in there without a care in the world." He contrasted her calmness with the general panic, noting she looks "like she is on holiday rather than hoping not to be murdered or banished." Frances Mayes echoed this, observing that Fiona speaks in riddles to the camera and seemed unconcerned about securing a protective shield.
Harriet and Ross: The Strategic Masterminds?
Harriet, the criminal barrister and novelist, showcased formidable skills in the last episode by almost single-handedly orchestrating the banishment of Hugo. While impressive, this display of tactical prowess has made some Metro readers wary. Ben Wood suggested on Facebook, "Harriet, she was absolutely adamant Hugo was a traitor. I think she may have played her trump card far too soon." Antony Sheppard added fuel to the fire with a claim that Harriet's picture was featured on a wall with other traitors during the weekend's aftershow programme.
Meanwhile, personal trainer Ross remains a prime candidate for many. Despite frequently appearing to be framed by the Traitors, some fans believe this could be an elaborate double-bluff. Furthermore, a theory from Pat Plant that the Secret Traitor "has to be someone tall" also points directly to the ultra-fit 37-year-old from London.
