Comedian and Blue Bloods Star Alex Duong Dies at 42 After Battle with Rare Cancer

Alex Duong, a beloved figure in the Los Angeles comedy circuit and a familiar face on television, has died at the age of 42. He passed away following a courageous fight against a rare and aggressive form of cancer, according to a statement from close family friend Hilarie Steele.

Duong died at St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica after being hospitalized with septic shock. In the statement, Steele shared heartfelt details: ‘With the heaviest hearts, we share that our dear Alex passed away peacefully this morning, surrounded by love and dear friends. He was comfortable and thankfully out of pain.’ She added that his wife, Christina, and daughter, Everest, were able to see him before his passing, and he was alert enough to say goodbye to his little girl.

Diagnosis and Health Struggles

Duong was previously diagnosed with alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare soft-tissue cancer that formed a malignant mass blocking blood flow to his optic nerve. This condition ultimately cost him vision in his left eye. Despite undergoing surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation treatments, the disease progressed aggressively, leading to his untimely death.

Before his diagnosis, Duong had been preparing for an ambitious year, including a planned tour spanning 41 states with several dates alongside comedian Ronny Chieng. His career was on an upward trajectory, but his health challenges forced him to put these plans on hold.

Career Highlights and Legacy

Alex Duong was known for his versatile roles across television, including appearances on shows such as Blue Bloods, Dexter, Everybody Hates Chris, and Pretty Little Liars. He also contributed as a writer for Netflix’s Historical Roasts, showcasing his talent in both acting and comedy writing.

His passing has left a void in the entertainment industry, with Steele noting in her statement: ‘We are devastated, but so grateful for the support, prayers, and generosity you have all shown during this unimaginable time. Your continued support now means everything as Christina and Everest navigate the days ahead and to arrange a beautiful celebration of his life.’

Duong’s legacy extends beyond his professional achievements; he was cherished by family and friends for his dedication and love, particularly for his daughter, whom he treasured deeply since her birth.
