Peep Show Reunion Teased by Star: 'One-Off Special' Could Happen
Peep Show star drops biggest clue yet for reunion special

Fans of the beloved cult sitcom Peep Show have been given their strongest hint yet that a long-awaited reunion special could finally become a reality, a full decade after the series concluded.

The Decade-Old Promise

According to actor Matt King, who played the unforgettable drug-addled muso Super Hans, the show's creators made a tantalising promise when the series wrapped in 2015. Jesse Armstrong and Sam Bain, the co-writers, reportedly told the cast: "We'll see you in ten years. We're going to write a one-off."

King recently revealed to The Sun that he followed up on that promise just six months ago. While the writers confirmed they were still interested, their hectic schedules – Armstrong is the mastermind behind HBO's Succession – meant a precise ten-year anniversary special wasn't feasible. "I feel like it will happen," King stated optimistically, offering a beacon of hope to devotees.

Cast Enthusiasm and Creative Caveats

The spark for renewed speculation was ignited as much of the original cast reunited for a Great British Bake Off Christmas special. This gathering has fuelled fresh dialogue about a potential Peep Show return.

Fellow star Isy Suttie, who played Dobby, is also keen but envisions a revival much further down the line. She joked about a scenario set in 20 years with the central duo, Mark and Jez, in an old people's home. This humorous concept aligns with previous comments from the show's leads, David Mitchell and Robert Webb.

In a 2023 interview, Webb mused that it would be funny to revisit the characters as old men, "living in the same flat and having the same arguments," likely before they hit 70. He cautioned, however, that seeing them still unfulfilled in their 50s would be "so sad." Mitchell has separately expressed that any return would need to be a "totally separate thing" to avoid tarnishing the original show's legacy.

Writers' Busy Schedules Remain the Hurdle

Despite the cast's apparent willingness, the final decision rests with the writers. Jesse Armstrong's previous comments suggest a revival is not currently a priority. In 2023, he told The Hollywood Reporter there were "no Peep Show revivals on the cards," though he emphasised his continued good relationship and creative partnership with Sam Bain.

The enduring bond and comedic timing of Mitchell and Webb, currently showcased in their new Channel 4 sketch show Mitchell and Webb Are Not Helping, proves the duo's dynamic remains as potent as ever. For now, fans must hold onto Matt King's confident prediction and the decade-old promise from the show's brilliant creators.

Peep Show, which starred David Mitchell as Mark Corrigan and Robert Webb as Jeremy 'Jez' Usbourne, ran for nine series from 2003 to 2015. It is available to stream on Channel 4.
