The controversial Channel 4 show Virgin Island has sparked speculation about the relationship between its two sex therapists, Dr Danielle Harel and Celeste Hirschman, after they engaged in sensual demonstrations on the program. The duo, who co-founded the Somatica Institute, have now clarified that they are not lovers but business partners.
Intimacy Exercises on the Mediterranean Retreat
As part of their intimacy course on a Mediterranean retreat, twelve adults who have never had sex participate in exercises designed by Dr Harel and Hirschman. These activities aim to help participants overcome barriers related to physical touch, emotional intimacy, and sexual encounters. The therapists often demonstrate techniques on each other, including a recent episode featuring an animal game where they rolled around and touched each other's bodies.
Addressing the Speculation
Speaking to The Mirror, the pair reiterated that they are not romantically involved. Dr Harel explained that after one of their pillow talk sessions, they reminded the group: 'You know, we're not lovers – we're business partners and we are practicing with each other.' She added that this clarification 'set up the stage for them to really practice with each other and not feel awkward about it.'
Professional Background
Together, Dr Harel and Hirschman are co-founders of the Somatica Institute, which trains coaches in their 'hands-on experiential method of sex and relationship coaching.' Their approach 'combines emotional connection with practical tools to build confidence, communication and intimacy.' They also run a joint Instagram account where they share tips for 'love, sex, and transformation.'
Personal Lives
In a post on her personal page last year, Dr Harel revealed that she was celebrating her 31st wedding anniversary with her husband. She told the Sisters in the City podcast that the secret to a long and happy marriage includes great sex and 'a lot of freedom.' She described her husband as 'full of compersion' and said he 'really loved to see her getting sexy.'
Series Progress
Hirschman noted that the second series cast responded better to the exercises than the first, as they had a clearer idea of what to expect. Virgin Island airs on Channel 4 and continues on Monday, May 4.
