Shirley Ballas, the head judge on BBC's Strictly Come Dancing, required urgent hospital treatment following a serious accident at her home. The 65-year-old television personality fell backwards, striking her head on a glass dressing table.
Emergency Hospital Visit and Health Update
The incident, which occurred just days before she was due to begin the Strictly live tour, prompted immediate medical attention over fears she may have cracked her skull. Ballas was rushed to hospital where doctors performed a brain scan.
On Saturday morning, Ballas took to Instagram to update her concerned followers. She described the "scary fall backwards" and confirmed the trip to hospital for the scan. Fortunately, she was able to share positive news, confirming there was no skull fracture.
"I'll rest a few days to heal my neck and back," she wrote, adding her gratitude to friends who helped secure an emergency appointment and accompanied her. She concluded her message by relaying the doctor's assessment that she was "very lucky," signing off with a heart emoji.
Personal Challenges and Forthcoming Commitments
The accident comes after a difficult period for Ballas, who in December mourned the loss of her beloved aunt, Mavis. She shared a heartfelt tribute ahead of the Strictly final, recalling her aunt's cherished sayings and her faithful viewership of the show.
Despite the recent scare, Ballas is expected to join fellow judges Craig Revel Horwood and Anton Du Beke for the upcoming Strictly Come Dancing Live Tour. The tour is scheduled to commence at Birmingham's Utilita Arena on January 23, 2026.
The arena tour will feature celebrities from the 2025 series, including athletes, actors, and finalists.
