Holly Ramsay and Olympic champion Adam Peaty celebrated their marriage in a lavish ceremony at the historic Bath Abbey on December 27, but the event was as notable for its family tensions as for its bridal fashion. The bride made a striking sartorial statement, opting for not one but three distinct wedding dresses throughout the festivities.
A Trio of Show-Stopping Bridal Gowns
For the main ceremony, Holly Ramsay chose a breathtaking, trailing gown by renowned designer Elie Saab. She accessorised the look with an intricate lace veil and heels by Amina Muaddi. Speaking to Vogue, Holly explained that the abbey's impressive 65-metre aisle inspired her choice, noting she knew she "needed something long" to create a real impact.
Her second dress was another Elie Saab creation, which she described as "short and fun" for the reception. However, the most sentimental outfit was her third change. In a touching tribute to her mother, Tana Ramsay, Holly wore the very silk gown Tana had married celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay in back in 1996.
"I've always loved the idea of bringing in mum's dress at some point," Holly told Vogue. "It's beautiful: silk with a V-neckline and pearls all the way around. I tried it on and it fit me perfectly – it didn't need any altering." She joked that while her parents would have loved one look, she was determined to have two changes, ultimately making it three.
Emotional Moments and Family Drama
The moment Tana saw her daughter in the vintage dress was filled with emotion, but Holly revealed it was her famously fiery father, Gordon Ramsay, who was the most emotional in the lead-up. "Dad cries every time I talk about the wedding," she said. Gordon was also "extremely involved" with the catering, collaborating with his team at London's Savoy Grill to craft the menu for the 200 guests, which included Sir David and Victoria Beckham.
Despite the joy, the wedding was overshadowed by significant family strife on the groom's side. Reports confirmed that Adam Peaty's mother, Caroline, was asked not to attend. The situation escalated when it was reported that Adam's brother, James, was arrested on suspicion of harassment after the stag do in Budapest.
Adam released a statement addressing these "challenging times," urging the public to remember there are "two sides to every story." Further reports claimed Adam uninvited his close friend and fellow swimmer, Michael Gunning, for "staying close" to Caroline. His great aunt and uncle were also allegedly "brutally" uninvited via an automated message just days before the ceremony.
A Wedding Proceeding Amidst Tension
The only immediate member of the Peaty family present was Adam's older sister, Bethany, who served as one of Holly's three Maids of Honour. The drama had been building for weeks, with Caroline's absence from Holly's hen-do at Soho Farmhouse first sparking rumours of a fallout, with sources suggesting Adam had been "changed by money, fame and fortune."
Ultimately, the couple's wedding at the opulent Bath Abbey was a blend of high-fashion tributes and deeply personal family complexities, marking the start of their married life with both beautiful memories and unresolved tensions.
