Public Voting Opens for 2026 Smiley Charity Film Awards

Public voting is now officially open for the 2026 Smiley Charity Film Awards, an event that brings together over 200 shortlisted charities competing for a substantial prize fund of £101,000. This initiative, powered by the Smiley Movement, invites audiences across the United Kingdom to participate by watching impactful charity films and casting their votes in just 60 seconds, effectively turning film views into crucial funding for vital causes.

Expanding Reach and Impact

Now in its ninth year, the awards have seen a remarkable increase in participation, with more than 500 entries submitted this year. From this pool, 200 finalists have been selected, representing a diverse array of causes. These include mental health support, homelessness prevention, animal welfare, disability inclusion, youth services, health initiatives, and international development projects.

National and Regional Representation

The finalists consist of 155 national charities, alongside a significant number of regional organizations. These regional charities span from Bath to Bradford, Cornwall to Kirklees, East London to Edinburgh, and extend across Wales and the wider UK. This broad geographic representation highlights the widespread impact of charitable work throughout the country.

Global Stories and Celebrity Support

Beyond the UK, this year's finalists feature powerful narratives from international locations such as India, Palestine, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and Uganda, making the Smiley Charity Film Awards a truly global celebration. Many of these films benefit from appearances by well-known supporters, including Brad Pitt, Annie Lennox, Zawe Ashton, Stephen Graham, Hugh Bonneville, Laura Whitmore, Vanessa Redgrave, Poppy Delevingne, Dawn O’Porter, Alesha Dixon, Jordan Stephens, Kate Humble, Natalie Emmanuel, and Nadia Sawalha. These celebrities help amplify stories that drive real-world change and increase visibility for the causes.

Prize Structure and Voting Incentives

For the first time in the awards' history, voters will have the opportunity to win a donation for their favourite charity. The total prize fund of £101,000 is allocated across various categories, including £10,000 for Film of the Year, £10,000 for the People’s Choice Grand Prix, £3,000 per category winner, and £3,000 for the Corporate Cause Award. Additionally, dedicated support is provided for smaller charities, grouped by turnover, ensuring that organizations of all sizes can benefit.
