Central London is set to be illuminated once again by the UK's premier Ramadan lights display, as the popular spectacle prepares for its fourth consecutive year. The Ramadan Lights London installation will return to Coventry Street in the heart of the West End, transforming the area into a glowing beacon of community and celebration throughout the holy month.
A Dazzling Display of Light and Community
The aerial installation, which first made history in 2023 as Western Europe's inaugural display of its kind, will feature over 30,000 energy-efficient LED bulbs. The lights are scheduled to be switched on in mid-February and will shine each night from 5pm until 5am. Inspired by intricate Islamic geometric patterns and the celestial rhythms of Ramadan, the design is both visually stunning and deeply symbolic.
The colour palette of the display will gently transition through luminous tones, echoing the daily cycle of fasting observed during Ramadan. The installation is fully funded by the charitable Aziz Foundation and will initially carry the message "Happy Ramadan". In a seamless overnight transformation on March 18, the lights will change to proclaim "Happy Eid", marking the joyous festival that concludes the month of fasting. This celebratory message will remain until the evening of March 24.
An Open Invitation to All Londoners
Trustees and directors of The Aziz Foundation have emphasised the event's role in fostering unity across the capital. Rahima Aziz, a foundation trustee, stated that the lights serve as an open invitation to people of all beliefs and backgrounds to experience the core values of Ramadan. She described the initiative as a "shining symbol of London’s rich diversity", reflecting the city's spirit of warmth and coexistence.
Joe Dobson, a director at the foundation, noted how a small idea has blossomed into a world-leading celebration. He confirmed that the 2026 edition promises to be the most ambitious yet, with a full programme of partnerships and community-led initiatives to be unveiled in the coming weeks. The overarching aim remains to be a shared cultural event that stands as a symbol of inclusion, interfaith harmony, and shared civic pride.
A Growing London Tradition
Since its debut, Ramadan Lights London has established itself as a major fixture in the capital's cultural calendar, drawing both first-time and returning visitors. By occupying a prominent space on Coventry Street, it brings the spirit of Ramadan and Eid directly into the bustling heart of London's West End. The extended display period, covering both Ramadan and Eid, ensures the festival's message of togetherness resonates widely across the city.
Organisers are keen to build on the success of previous years, using the installation as a focal point for broader community engagement and connection. As the lights prepare to dazzle once more, they stand as a vivid testament to London's evolving traditions and its celebrated multicultural identity.
