Adam Peaty's Mum Cancels Plan to Crash Wedding to Holly Ramsay
Adam Peaty's mum won't crash his wedding to Holly Ramsay

The mother of Olympic champion Adam Peaty has reportedly abandoned her intention to turn up uninvited to his high-profile wedding to Holly Ramsay this weekend. Caroline Peaty, who was said to be "distraught" after being excluded from the guest list, has now decided to stay away from the ceremony at Bath Abbey to avoid causing further upset.

A Public Family Dispute

The lead-up to the wedding of the 30-year-old swimmer and Gordon Ramsay's 25-year-old daughter has been overshadowed by very public family tensions. Reports first emerged last month that Caroline Peaty had been uninvited from the nuptials, a situation highlighted when she was notably absent from Holly's hen party at Soho Farmhouse.

Sources close to Adam subsequently suggested he had been "changed by money, fame and fortune" and had distanced himself from his family. The drama intensified when Adam's brother, James, was reportedly arrested on suspicion of harassment following the swimmer's stag do in Budapest.

Adam Peaty addressed the situation in a lengthy Instagram statement on November 20, referencing "challenging times" and an ongoing police investigation. He asked the public to remember that "there are always two sides to every story" and thanked those who had shown kindness.

Change of Heart for the Wedding Day

Despite earlier insisting she would watch from the street if necessary, Caroline Peaty has had a change of heart. A family member told The Sun: "She will not be there because it would be too sad and she don't want to spoil his big day." Her husband, Mark, is said to have dissuaded her, explaining that being present would be "too upsetting".

This development comes as Holly Ramsay and her family were spotted travelling from their £7.5 million London home to the wedding venue on Friday. The bride-to-be, wearing a long white coat, was photographed leaving with her father Gordon, mother Tana, sister Tilly, and brother Jack. Adam Peaty was also seen departing with the Ramsay family.

Bath Abbey Booking Sparks Local Backlash

The couple's ceremony, set for Saturday, has not been without controversy in the historic city of Bath. The couple have booked the city's famous Abbey for the entire day, closing it to the public for a ceremony expected to last 90 minutes. The Abbey's website for Saturday simply states: "Please note the Abbey is closed today. There are no services or visiting times scheduled."

Reports indicate the couple were able to secure the venue due to a "special connection", complying with rules that require a qualifying link to the Abbey, such as being a parishioner or congregation member. The exact nature of their connection remains unclear.

The move has frustrated some locals and tourists, with one resident calling it "selfish". A security team has reportedly been hired to patrol the area and prevent onlookers from taking photographs of the bride and groom.

The wedding is expected to be a star-studded affair, with over 200 guests including Sir David and Victoria Beckham in attendance. Adam and Holly met in 2021 when he competed on Strictly Come Dancing with her sister, Tilly. The swimmer, who shares a five-year-old son with his ex-girlfriend, went public with Holly in June 2023 and proposed in September of last year.
