Radiant Coronation Street bride Debbie Webster's Christmas wedding could be shattered by a terrifying car crash, with her own brother, the intoxicated Carl, behind the wheel.
A Wedding Day Marred by Drink and Danger
While the pictures from the big day, set to feature prominently over Christmas, have so far been full of joy and mischief, the atmosphere is set to turn toxic. Carl, who has been making the day about himself, is seen in a bitter argument with his partner, Abi Franklin.
As Abi rants at him and storms off, a miserable Carl is seen necking deeply from a bottle. Clearly wasted, he then takes control of Debbie's wedding car after the nuptials, putting his sister's life at direct risk.
The question on every fan's lips is: will he ever be forgiven if he ruins this special day with a catastrophic accident?
Carl's Despicable Behaviour Reaches a New Low
This dangerous act is just the latest in a string of callous behaviours from Carl. He has already disgusted viewers by using Debbie's dementia diagnosis against her, gaslighting her about hotel accounts in a blatant attempt to exploit her.
This is a particularly cruel blow for Debbie, a popular fan favourite who is trying to make the most of her life since her diagnosis. The wedding was meant to be a camp, Debbie-tastic event, a celebration of her love for Ronnie Bailey and her determination to live life to the fullest.
Show boss Kate Brooks has promised the wedding will be eventful and so very Debbie, featuring the debut of the dementia choir she has been so invested in. She told Metro.co.uk: 'For Debbie, she's enjoying life. She's living life. She's making the most of it.'
A Story of Friendship and Facing the Future
Brooks also emphasised that while Debbie is navigating her dementia, she is not defined by it. Her story is really in its infancy, and the show is focused on her strong group of female friends.
'Glenda, Sally, Bernie, Christina, Debbie – this gang of women who are navigating life at the same time,' Brooks said. 'Watching those friendships develop, there's a lot of fun stuff coming up. It's so classic Corrie.'
For now, however, all that joy is under threat. As fans watch the Christmas episodes unfold, they will be left on the edge of their seats, hoping that pesky Carl doesn't derail what should be a perfect wedding day for the beloved Debbie Webster.
