Coronation Street actress Amy Cudden has delivered a chilling warning about her character, Becky Swain, describing her as a dangerous and mutating 'virus' of evil, with her worst yet to come.
A villain in the making
The star spoke exclusively to Metro at the premiere of the historic Corriedale crossover event on December 22, 2025. She opened up about the immense pressure of joining one of soap's biggest storylines, which has already seen Becky send shockwaves through Weatherfield and infuriate a legion of loyal fans.
'Shock and panic, there's going to be a lot of eyes on it, and then just real excitement,' Cudden admitted about being cast. 'I've never been part of something quite so massive.'
'A life or death situation'
While viewers have only seen glimpses of Becky's malice, Cudden confirmed the character is poised to become far more threatening. Driven by a desperate mission to reclaim her wife and daughter, Becky has no limits.
'It is a life or death situation for her,' the actress explained. 'She's really dangerous and she will do anything... she can dehumanise people around her. Without going into too many details, she's a wrong'un.'
Fan fury and unexpected support
The storyline, particularly Becky's interference with the popular couple Swarla, has provoked intense online reaction. However, Cudden revealed a surprising level of support from the show's most passionate followers.
'Some of the most hardcore fans have reached out to me personally,' she said. They send letters and care packages, saying "we hate Becky, but we really like you".' She noted some fans are even concerned for her mental health playing such a dark role.
Cudden understands the protective fury, hoping the plot ultimately makes Swarla's bond stronger. 'I hope people see Becky as a virus they're going to immunise themselves against and get stronger from.'
The 'mutating virus' of evil
She then expanded on that striking metaphor, offering a definitive summary of Becky's nature. 'Oh yeah, she's a virus, she's covid, she keeps mutating and turning into new strains of evil.'
This confirms Becky is not a fleeting nuisance but an evolving, persistent threat. As the Corriedale episode approaches and tensions escalate, Becky's actions are set to have severe and lasting consequences for the Street.
With Amy Cudden fully embracing the character's darkness and fans emotionally invested like never before, Coronation Street is braced for explosive drama. One thing is certain: Becky Swain's most dangerous strain is still on the horizon.
