The entertainment world is in mourning following the tragic announcement from former Coronation Street star Debbie Rush. The actress, best known for playing Anna Windass on the ITV soap, has revealed her son has died just a week before Christmas.

A Heartbreaking Announcement

'As a family, our hearts are completely broken, and there are no words that can truly capture the depth of our loss,' Debbie wrote. The actress went on to highlight an incredible act of generosity from her son, even in death.

A Legacy of Kindness

In her statement, Debbie revealed that William had been an organ donor. 'Even in our darkest moment, William gave the most precious gift of all,' she explained. 'Through being an organ donor, he has given hope and life to other families, thinking of others right to the very end. His kindness and love will forever be part of his legacy.'

The family has asked for privacy as they navigate their 'unimaginable grief'. Debbie's post concluded with the poignant words: 'William will always be loved, always missed, and forever in our hearts.'

Remembering William's Career

William Rush was also an actor, following in his mother's footsteps. He was best known for playing Josh Stevenson in the BBC school drama Waterloo Road between 2009 and 2013. His character was the son of teacher Tom Clarkson, played by Jason Done.

Debbie Rush is famed for her decade-long role as Anna Windass on Coronation Street from 2008 to 2018. Her character was mother to Gary Windass, portrayed by Mikey North. Anna's dramatic storylines included:

  • Recovering from severe leg burns after a car explosion in 2016.
  • Being wrongly convicted of attempted murder in 2017 after being framed by Pat Phelan.
  • Ultimately stabbing Phelan after he went on the run, before leaving Weatherfield.
