The worlds of Britain's two most famous streets are set for a spectacular and dramatic collision in the new year. ITV has confirmed that the highly anticipated crossover episode, dubbed 'Corriedale', will air on January 5 at 8pm, promising an hour of game-changing action and emotional turmoil.
A Terrifying Crisis for Shona Platt
The episode will see a multi-vehicle pile-up bring characters from Weatherfield and the Dales together in chaos. Among those caught in the drama is Shona Platt (Julia Goulding), who is pregnant with partner David Platt's (Jack P. Shepherd) baby. Spoilers reveal a terrifying turn of events for Shona, who is seen screaming in a scene at Hotten General Hospital.
Prior to the hospital drama, Shona and David are tended to at the roadside by Emmerdale's Jacob Gallagher. The cause of Shona's distress remains a closely guarded secret, leaving fans to speculate about the safety of her unborn child.
Charity Dingle's Complicated Web of Lies
Adding to the intense drama is Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins), who is also pregnant. However, her situation is fraught with deception. She is carrying Ross Barton's (Michael Parr) baby, but has led everyone, including her granddaughter Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) and Sarah's partner Jacob (Joe-Warren Plant), to believe she is acting as their surrogate.
In a poignant moment from the trailer, Charity is seen attempting to help a distraught Shona in the hospital, connecting the two pregnant women's storylines in a moment of crisis.

The crossover episode features a huge ensemble cast. From Coronation Street, confirmed characters include Kit Green, James Bailey, Asha Alahan, Carla Connor, Tracy Barlow, Liam Cavanagh, and Lisa Swain. The Emmerdale contingent features Cain Dingle, Sarah Sugden, Jacob Gallagher, Robert Sugden, Joe Tate, and Aaron Dingle.
The action will see Carla (Alison King) trying to calm a panicked individual, while Kit (Jacob Roberts) works to manage the aftermath of the major crash. Asha Alahan (Tanisha Gorey) heads to assist Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) with casualties at the scene.
Iain MacLeod, ITV’s Executive Producer for Continuing Drama, has teased the scale of the episode, stating: "As a soap fan myself, I think my head is going to explode when the episode airs next year. It will be mind-blowing, historical and unmissable." He also highlighted the "brilliant transpennine interactions" between the characters from the rival soaps.
