In the high-stakes world of soap operas, sometimes the most memorable moments are the ones that happen by accident. Actor Jack P Shepherd, who plays the sharp-tongued David Platt in Coronation Street, has revealed one such spontaneous moment that made it into the highly anticipated Corriedale crossover special.
The Die Hard dash that made the cut
Shepherd explained that during the filming of a massive, explosive stunt for the hour-long special, his instinctive reaction was to run towards the danger. "The little sprint, yeah," he laughed. "I kind of just went, I'll go full Tom Cruise and I'll just bomb towards the danger." This unplanned dash, echoing an action hero, was kept in the final edit, adding a layer of raw, unexpected realism to the chaotic scene.
The special, which aired on December 31, 2025, brings the worlds of Emmerdale and Coronation Street together in a devastating car crash on a dark road. The collision serves as a catalyst, intertwining the fates of major characters from both soaps as they fight for survival.
Epic stakes and on-set Haribo fuel
Shepherd was full of praise for the scale of the production, particularly noting the legendary stunt work of the Emmerdale team. "In all the years we've watched Emmerdale stunts they've always gone down in history as being better than ours," he said. "It was nice to work with them and show us how to do it!" He described the episode as being "crammed full of story", expertly weaving together major plotlines from both shows within a cinematic 45-minute runtime.
Filming the intense, fiery sequences was a gruelling night shoot, but the cast found sustenance in a surprising place. "There's fire and everything!" Shepherd recalled. "And we're all there, we're all just having a laugh and we've got Haribo and sweets and stuff and chocolate."
David Platt's personal drama intensifies
The external carnage of the crash is set to collide with David's intense personal turmoil. He and his partner Shona are grappling with a heartbreaking storyline where their unborn child has been diagnosed with a cancerous tumour. The only potential surgery poses a severe risk to Shona's life, creating a devastating dilemma.
While David has been plagued with doubts, Shona is determined to carry the pregnancy to term. The aftermath of the Corriedale crash is poised to dramatically alter the next chapter of their harrowing baby story.
The Corriedale special promises to be a landmark television event, blending high-octane stunts with deep-seated character drama. And thanks to Jack P Shepherd's impulsive sprint, it will also contain a uniquely authentic, unscripted moment of pure reaction.
