Emmy Award-winning actor Kiefer Sutherland has been taken into police custody following an alleged physical altercation with a ride-share driver in Hollywood, authorities have confirmed.
The Incident and Arrest Details
The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) stated that the incident occurred in the early hours of Monday morning, around 12:15am local time (8:15am UK time). The London-born Canadian actor, famed for his role as counter-terrorism agent Jack Bauer, allegedly assaulted the driver and issued criminal threats during a journey in Hollywood.
The alleged confrontation took place at the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue. Police have confirmed that the driver involved did not sustain any injuries during the reported event.
Legal Proceedings and Past Record
Sutherland was later released from custody after posting a bond set at $50,000, which is approximately £37,300. He is scheduled to make a court appearance on 2 February 2026 to answer the allegations.
This is not the first time the actor has faced legal trouble. In 2007, Sutherland was sentenced to serve 48 days in jail for driving under the influence of alcohol after failing a roadside sobriety test.
A Storied Hollywood Career
The actor, son of the celebrated Canadian actor Donald Sutherland, is a major figure in film and television. He rose to global prominence for his intense portrayal of Jack Bauer in the long-running Fox drama series 24, a role which earned him an Emmy Award and a Golden Globe.
More recently, he starred as President Tom Kirkman in the political drama series Designated Survivor. The LAPD's Hollywood division is currently leading the investigation into the latest allegations against the star.
