The entertainment world is mourning the loss of actor Pat Finn, who has died at the age of 60 following a battle with cancer.

A Life in Comedy and Television

Finn passed away on Tuesday morning, surrounded by his family at his Los Angeles home, as confirmed by reports from TMZ. Although his family did not specify the type of cancer, it has been widely reported that he was diagnosed with bladder cancer several years ago.

Born in Illinois, Finn graduated from Marquette University in 1987, where he forged a friendship with the late Saturday Night Live comedian Chris Farley while playing on the university rugby team. His comedic path was set after moving to Chicago, where he joined the famed The Second City National Touring Company and performed at the iO Theater.

A Prolific Career on Screen

Finn's television career spanned decades, featuring memorable guest spots on some of the most iconic sitcoms of all time. His early roles included playing Phil Jr. in Murphy Brown across ten episodes from 1995 to 1997.

He later appeared as Joe Mayo in an episode of Seinfeld in 1998, Frank in That '70s Show the following year, and perhaps most notably for a global audience, as Dr. Roger in two episodes of Friends in 2000.

One of his most enduring roles was as Bill Norwood on the ABC sitcom The Middle, a part he played from 2010 until the show's conclusion in 2018. His other TV credits are extensive, including appearances in The King of Queens, According to Jim, Las Vegas, Curb Your Enthusiasm, House, and 2 Broke Girls.

On the big screen, Finn featured in films such as Dude, Where's My Car?, Cloud Nine, It's Complicated, and Funny Thing About Love. His final television credit was in a 2019 episode of The Goldbergs.

Tributes from Friends and Family

Comedian Jeff Dye led the public tributes, sharing a heartfelt message on X (formerly Twitter). "I don't like to be the guy who posts pics with celebrities that pass," Dye wrote. "But this guy wasn't just a celebrity to me. He was a friend. One of the best dudes I knew with a PERFECT sense of humour."

Finn is survived by his wife Donna, whom he married in 1990, and their three children. His career began in earnest after being cast in The George Wendt Show in the mid-90s, where he worked with the Cheers star who himself passed away earlier in 2025.

The passing of Pat Finn marks the loss of a versatile and beloved character actor whose face became a familiar and welcome presence in living rooms across the world for over two decades.
