Actor Seann William Scott, now 49, remains indelibly linked to his breakout role as the outrageous Stifler in the American Pie franchise. In a candid interview, he opens up about his latest horror project, the enduring legacy of his comedic character, and the impending moment when his young daughter discovers his X-rated filmography.
From Gross-Out Comedy to Hardcore Horror
Scott's new film, Dolly, marks a stark departure from his comedic roots. "It's one awful nightmare!" he describes, detailing a plot where a couple encounters a terrifying entity in a woods filled with creepy dolls. The actor spent much of the shoot with a prosthetic jaw that elicited disgusted reactions from the crew. "I asked to keep the jaw, but they wouldn't give it to me," he laments, noting the film's graphic violence makes it unsuitable for his mother.
His affinity for horror stems from childhood, introduced to films like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Night of the Living Dead by his father at a remarkably young age. "Looking back, there are some parts that are probably not appropriate for a six-year-old!" he admits, though he was captivated by performances like Malcolm McDowell's in A Clockwork Orange.
Embracing the Stifler Legacy
Despite decades in the industry, Scott is still frequently recognized as Stifler. "Probably a couple of times a week," he estimates, recalling a recent restaurant encounter where a fan greeted him by the character's name. This led to an awkward moment with his five-year-old daughter, who questioned, "Daddy, what is going on? Who's Stifler?"
Scott has no plans to show her the American Pie films anytime soon, but anticipates a future conversation. "She's either gonna be horrified and be like – 'Daddy?!?' or she's gonna laugh her ass off," he predicts. Unlike co-star Jason Biggs, who receives countless apple pies from fans, Scott humorously notes nobody has ever sent him the infamous beer from the film.
Future Projects and Personal Reflections
When asked about potential sequels, Scott expresses nostalgia for reuniting with the American Pie cast but doubts another installment will materialize. He finds the title Seriously Dude, Where's My Car? hilarious enough to warrant a follow-up to his 2000 comedy.
Personally, Scott is selling his Malibu home for $18 million, not due to beach fatigue but to relocate closer to work. "I just changed beaches," he clarifies. Despite 80,000 Instagram followers, he admits to being inactive on social media, citing poor self-promotion skills.
Approaching 50, Scott maintains a youthful outlook. "I still feel like a big kid," he says, crediting this attitude for making him an "awesome dad." He also reveals his full name resulted from a Screen Actors Guild conflict with another Seann Scott, leading to the inclusion of his middle name. "Personally, I don't love it," he confesses, joking about rebranding as "Seannnnn."
