Bakery79 Challenges Greggs with Retro Summer Menu Launch
Bakery79 Challenges Greggs with Retro Summer Menu

Greggs has long been the go-to for Brits craving a sausage roll or doughnut, but a new bakery chain is vying for the top spot. Bakery79, a little-known food-to-go specialist, has been quietly growing in popularity since launching in the UK in 2025. Now, it is expanding rapidly, with plans to open 20 fully-fledged stores by the end of 2026, plus 10 self-service locations. Last March, the company launched 12 new sites in former Greggs concessions at Park Garage Group forecourts.

Retro-Inspired Summer Menu

As part of its push to topple Greggs, Bakery79 has unveiled a summer menu that channels the 'colourful and carefree spirit associated with Britain in 1979'. Nostalgic flavours include three new baguette options: Coronation Chicken, Heinz Sandwich Filler (Ham Salad), and Cheese and Pineapple. For those with a sweet tooth, the bakery offers three new doughnut flavours: Drumstick, Parma Violet, and Jelly Bean.

New Drinks and Indulgent Treats

New beverages include tropical options like Pina Colada mocktail, Watermelon Cooler, and Cherryade and Pineapple Lemonade. For indulgence, there are Black Forest Chocolate and Mint Chocolate milkshakes. Most Bakery79 stores are in the South of England, with a few in the North, including Blackpool and Peterborough.
