Bubala, the acclaimed London vegetarian restaurant known for its Middle Eastern-inspired dishes, is set to open its largest location yet in Covent Garden this September. The new venue will mark the fourth outpost for the popular plant-based eatery, which first debuted in Spitalfields in 2019.
A New Chapter for Bubala
Since its initial launch, Bubala has earned a loyal following with signature dishes such as brown butter houmous, meaty mushroom kebabs, and halloumi smothered in fruity jam. The success of the Spitalfields branch led to expansions in Soho and King's Cross. Now, the Levantine diner is bringing its vibrant flavors to the heart of London's Theatreland.
Location and Design
The new restaurant will occupy a Grade II-listed building on the corner of Garrick Street and Floral Street, currently home to Lima Cantina. Bubala Covent Garden will be its largest venue, featuring three distinct dining areas:
- A 60-cover ground floor space
- A downstairs dining room accommodating 32 guests
- 30 alfresco seats overlooking Floral Street, ideal for outdoor dining
Menu Highlights
The à la carte menu will include Bubala's classic offerings, such as halloumi with chamomile and fennel honey, and crispy confit latkes with toum (Lebanese whipped garlic sauce). The signature 'Bubala Knows Best' set menu will also be available at a reduced price of £39, down from £46, reflecting rising financial pressures for diners and businesses.
In addition to these staples, the Covent Garden location will feature a selection of regularly changing seasonal specials. Examples include:
- Wild garlic and asparagus börek for spring
- Whole grilled baby corn with pilpelchuma chilli paste butter in late summer
- Slow-cooked beetroot and feta pastilla in winter
The drink menu will feature wines sourced from across Europe and the Middle East, along with a cocktail list built around ingredients already used in the kitchen.
Opening Details
While the exact opening date has not been announced, Bubala Covent Garden is expected to welcome walk-ins and reservations from September. The address is 14 Garrick Street, WC2E 9BJ.
