London's SUBA Bakery Opens Third Shop in Spitalfields After Comeback
SUBA Bakery Opens Third London Shop in Spitalfields

One of the capital's most celebrated bakeries is set to open a major new flagship store in East London, marking a significant comeback story. SUBA will launch its third outlet on Commercial Street in Spitalfields on Monday, January 5, offering its renowned pastries, bread, and speciality coffee.

A Story of Resilience and Expansion

The expansion comes after a period of upheaval for the beloved brand. Owner Pa Modou, 33, made the unexpected decision to close the original Walthamstow branch in May last year. The bakery then made a quiet return, reopening in Hackney several months later. Modou has since re-established the business in Waltham Forest, with this new opening representing a confident stride forward.

Announcing the news on Instagram, Modou reflected on the journey, stating: "Four months ago, we had to start from scratch again. It’s been nothing but hard work, and we truly appreciate all the support. We are very grateful and excited to announce our third shop in Spitalfields." He added that the team is looking forward to welcoming more people to experience their baked goods and coffee.

What to Expect at the New Flagship

Patrons of the new Spitalfields location can anticipate the same high-quality offerings that built the bakery's loyal following. The menu will feature:

  • An ever-changing selection of flaky, buttery viennoiserie.
  • Fresh baguettes, loaves, buns, and sandwiches.
  • A dedicated speciality coffee service.

The bakery will operate six days a week. SUBA first won over Londoners in late-2023 with its unique fusion of French baking techniques and West African-inspired flavours. This innovative approach has earned it praise from prestigious guides including The Infatuation, The Good Food Guide, and TopJaw.

East London's Evolving Food Scene

SUBA's growth is part of a wider trend of exciting bakery openings in the capital. In related news, the acclaimed gluten-free bakery Copains has also recently arrived in London, trading Paris for Covent Garden, with plans to expand to Islington in 2026.

The new SUBA bakery will be located at 74 Commercial Street, E1 6LY. For the latest updates on opening times and menus, followers are encouraged to check the bakery's official Instagram channel.
