St Andrews Lakes in Kent, located just a 40-minute train journey from London, has amazed visitors with its stunning turquoise waters that resemble a Mediterranean paradise. The lake, situated in the village of Halling between Cuxton and Snodland, spans 70 acres of crystal clear water.
Former Quarry Transformed into Adventure Reserve
Originally a quarry, St Andrews Lakes has been transformed into an outdoor adventure and wellness reserve. It now offers open-water swimming, sandy beaches, an inflatable aqua park, paddleboarding, a Nordic-inspired wellness centre with saunas and wood-fired hot tubs, and lakeside floating lodges. It is Kent's largest aqua park, featuring floating obstacles, jump stations, water slides, and splash zones.
The remarkable blue hue of the water is due to suspended chalk particles that reflect sunlight, according to the venue. With depths reaching up to 30 metres, the lake is also suitable for scuba diving, with professional courses available for those wanting to learn breath-holding techniques.
Temperature and Visitor Reactions
In summer, surface water temperatures can reach a comfortable 20°C, while in winter they drop to around 6°C. A TikTok video by account 'Kybetravel' showcasing the lake garnered amazed reactions. One viewer commented, "I live 30 min from here, how can I never seen this?? wow, will definitely go there this weekend." Another said, "The nicest waters, I have seen in the UK thus far."
Pricing and Access
Entry to St Andrews Lakes costs £32.50 for adults, which includes use of a sun lounger, and £7.50 for children aged 2 to 17. Specific prices for various activities are available on the St Andrews Lakes website. The venue offers a holiday-like experience just outside the M25, perfect for beating the heat during London's summer temperatures in the thirties.
