Charli XCX to Tease New Music at Free Exmouth Market Event Tonight
Charli XCX is set to host one of her Conversations events at a venue in Exmouth Market tonight (Saturday, May 30), where she is expected to tease new music. The singer, whose real name is Charlotte Aitchison, confirmed she will hold a live talk about “the process of making things” with her husband, The 1975 drummer George Daniel, starting at 7:30 PM at Antisocial. Following the discussion, the pair will perform a DJ set at nearby Coin Laundry from 8 PM.
The 33-year-old pop icon told followers on her b.sides Instagram account that she may hide some new music within the DJ set. This event follows a similar one in New York earlier this month, which featured intimate Q&A sessions with fans about her creative process and songwriting. Charli teased the London event on her main Instagram account on Friday (May 29) with a post that simply read: “London… tomorrow night?”
Fans have been advised that the Conversations event and after party are on a first come, first serve basis, with no tickets required. The star, who grew up in Essex, released her latest single SS26 and accompanying B-side Playboy Bunny last week, which were only made available on record or via her B.sides Instagram account. Some fans initially speculated that Charli might make a surprise appearance at the Mighty Hoopla festival in Brockwell Park tonight, but she confirmed otherwise this afternoon.
On May 8, Charli released the single Rock Music, following an interview with Vogue that suggested she was “making rock music” for her upcoming follow-up to 2024’s Brat album. However, she later clarified on Instagram: “I never said I was making a rock album.” The single was accompanied by the B-side I Keep Thinking About You Every Single Day And Night, also available only on physical release and Instagram.
Charli’s recent musical output includes a Wuthering Heights companion album for Emerald Fennell’s film adaptation, as well as the Brat album, which sparked a cultural phenomenon upon its release. The “Brat summer” trend, which went viral on social media, featured sultry fashion choices inspired by the album’s neon green and black cover. Earlier this year, Charli starred in The Moment, a semi-fictional film about the release of Brat and its subsequent world tour. She also appeared in other film projects, including Pete Ohs’ Erupcja and Julia Jackman’s 100 Nights Of Hero.
Charli XCX has achieved two UK number one singles and three number one albums, and is best known for hits such as Boom Clap, Guess, and I Love It with Swedish duo Icona Pop.
