Morrissey Cancels 2026 Concert Due to Medical Reaction, Adding to 120+ Show History
Morrissey cancels show after adverse medication reaction

Morrissey has been forced to postpone his first scheduled concert of 2026 after suffering what was described as an 'adverse reaction to a prescription medication'. The former Smiths frontman was due to perform in Rancho Mirage, California, on Saturday, 3rd January.

A Pattern of Last-Minute Cancellations

A statement on the singer's official website announced the postponement the night before the show. It advised fans to hold onto their tickets for a rescheduled date or seek a refund from their point of purchase. Shortly after, a second show at the San Diego Civic Theatre on 6th January was also cancelled, according to a post from the venue on Instagram, though it did not specify if the cause was the same.

This incident continues a well-documented trend for the iconic yet controversial singer. In the last year alone, Morrissey cancelled 22 concerts, many at the eleventh hour. Over a broader 12-year period, the tally of scrapped performances exceeds 120.

A Tumultuous Touring History

The recent cancellations are far from isolated. In November 2025, Morrissey quietly axed an entire South American tour, which was set to include dates in Buenos Aires, Sao Paulo, Santiago, and Lima. This marked the third consecutive time he cancelled planned shows in Mexico, leaving fans there particularly frustrated.

Other recent disruptions include:

  • Cancelling two US shows in September 2025 after citing a 'credible threat on his life'.
  • Scrapping June 2025 Scandinavian dates due to claimed 'lack of financial support' and being 'travel-weary'.
  • Pulling out of two Los Angeles shows in May 2025 after hospitalisation for a 'severe sinusitis attack'.
  • Cancelling January 2025 South Carolina concerts due to 'physical exhaustion', as stated by his tour manager.

Shows in cities including Istanbul, Belgrade, Bucharest, and Madrid have also failed to materialise in recent years.

Fan Reaction and Future Dates

The constant uncertainty has led to a weary and divided fanbase. On social media, reactions range from sympathetic concern to outright anger. One loyal supporter recently commented, 'Love you so much Moz but it’s ok also if you just retire now and enjoy the fruits of your career.' Others are less forgiving, with one declaring the singer 'always does the same thing'.

Despite the latest cancellations, Morrissey's six remaining US dates for January, spanning Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Georgia, and Florida, are currently still scheduled. His next planned performance in the UK is at a show in London on 28th February 2026.

In a potential bright spot for dedicated followers, Morrissey sparked speculation about new music just weeks ago. On Christmas Day, he posted what appeared to be a track listing for a new 12-song album on Instagram, featuring titles like 'The Monsters of Pig Alley' and 'Headache'.
