Spice Girls fans were left baffled by the ageless appearance of Melanie C and Mel B during a surprise reunion in Leeds on Saturday night. The pair treated the crowd at Melanie C's gig to a lively rendition of the Spice Girls' 1997 number one single 'Spice Up Your Life'. Both were part of the Spice Girls line-up from 1994 alongside Emma Bunton, Geri Horner, and Victoria Beckham.
Fans React to Ageless Duo
When videos of the performance were shared on social media on Sunday, fans couldn't get over how youthful both Melanies looked. 'What freaking year are we in? Y'all don't age?' posted Cal in the top comment. Diedre agreed, admitting she had initially been 'legitimately confused,' while others suggested it could pass for 1996. 'That and Mel B's shirt had me genuinely puzzled about what year I was watching! She DEF wore that print in the 90s,' added Lynne Davidson. Leo Harley chimed in, 'Looking like 20 years ago,' with another fan suggesting it was 'more like 30 years.'
Melanie C's New Album and Emotional Reunion
Melanie C, who released her ninth solo studio album 'Sweat' on Friday, shared the moment on Instagram: 'Good to be back with my Spice sister @officialmelb in Leeds, thank you for sharing the stage with me.' Mel B also appeared delighted, posting a video of the duet and writing: 'Went to support my northern sister on the launch of her AMAZIN album SWEAT…. and she only ended up bloody gettin me on stage! LUV YOUUU and sooo proud of you @melaniecmusic!!! Everyone go out stream order buy her album coz its AMAZIN and so is she!!!!'
Before singing, Mel B lavished praise on her former bandmate, saying she had made her cry. Melanie C noted that it was 'special' to be up there with her for the first time since the 2019 Spice Girls reunion tour. Responding to Mel B's post, Melanie C wrote: 'MELANIE!!!! You made the night ???? Thank you so much for getting up with me and your beautiful words. I love you ??? #GirlPower ??'
Melanie C on Imposter Syndrome and Future Reunions
Melanie C, who has enjoyed solo success with hits like 'I Turn to You' and 'Never Be the Same Again', recently revealed she has suffered from imposter syndrome. 'I think all humans have impostor syndrome, and if you don't you're a psychopath. It's just a part of human nature,' she told The Guardian. 'When I released Northern Star, I was really determined to be seen as an individual, and I did want people to see there was more to me than just Sporty Spice. I was frustrated that people weren't ready for the Spice Girls to be solo artists. I completely accept that now, and I love Sporty Spice, and realise it's such a huge part of who I am as a performer.'
Meanwhile, she has also admitted that she would love to reunite with the other Spice Girls at Glastonbury, fanning the flames of persistent rumours. 'Glastonbury would be the pinnacle, it's a bucket list. Spice Girls, Pyramid Stage — I like to think that will happen at some point. I'm very strongly manifesting that it will happen,' she said while talking to Magic Radio. Melanie also insists that the group still have a distinctive energy. 'There's something about the dynamic of the Spice Girls — when we're in a room together it's electric. It still happens to this day … there is something magical about those five personalities.'
