SXSW London 2026 Launches in Shoreditch with Stars

SXSW London 2026 kicks off today, transforming Shoreditch into a hub of technology, film, and music until June 6. The globally renowned festival, originally from Austin, Texas, returns for its second year in the UK capital, with Metro as media partner for the second consecutive year.

Star-Studded Lineup and Performances

Notable figures such as Michelle Obama, Ant and Dec, Brian Eno, Ben Cohen, Mel B, Mike Skinner, and Jill Scott are participating. Live performances include Earl Sweatshirt, Pete Tong, Shame, Tiwa Savage, and Infinity Song, among others.

Venues and Atmosphere

The festival takes over multiple venues in Shoreditch, including the Truman Brewery, Shoreditch Town Hall, Village Underground, and the Barbican. Katy Arnander, SXSW's Chief Programming Officer, highlighted that Shoreditch's historic Victorian buildings and former factories provide a dynamic backdrop, representing the area's heritage as the "beating heart" of London.

Focus on AI and Human Connection

While AI is a major topic this year, Arnander emphasized that SXSW London is not just another tech conference. "AI is revolutionizing work across industries, but this year's conversation is more about AI as a permanent tool," she said. The festival also prioritizes human connection, with attendees gathering for live music, films, and discussions.

International Ambitions

Arnander expressed hopes for SXSW London to become a permanent fixture, leveraging London's proximity to Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, and the US. "We want to be a genuinely international hub for technology, business, and culture," she added.

Music Program Highlights

Adem Holness, head of music, curated the program to showcase underground scenes from around the world. "Each showcase is a gateway to different music communities," he said. The festival features 15 tracks covering topics from robotics to London 2050 and the future of AI.

Metro's Participation

Metro's editor-in-chief Deborah Arthurs will moderate a panel titled "Last Night a DJ Saved My Life" at the Truman Brewery on June 4, discussing London's nightlife and venue challenges.
