London Ranks Among UK's Toughest Cities for Singles, Study Finds
Looking for love in London? You might be in for a tougher time than anticipated. Despite its reputation as a vibrant metropolis with endless dining and nightlife options, a recent study has positioned London as one of the most difficult places in the UK for singles to meet potential partners.
Study Methodology and Key Findings
Conducted by Trusted Psychics, the research analyzed 99 UK cities across three primary categories: dating cost, dating opportunities, and dating activities. Dating cost was calculated based on the typical expense for a night out for two, encompassing a meal, drinks, theater tickets, and a taxi ride. London landed near the bottom of the ranking, securing the 98th spot out of 99.
The capital's dating cost is the highest in the study, averaging £142.76 per night, making romantic outings a significant financial burden. While London boasts a high share of single residents at 64.3%, indicating a large pool of potential matches, dating interest per 100,000 residents is remarkably low at just 134, the second-lowest figure in the research.
Additional Challenges for London Singles
Further complicating the dating scene, London offers only 3.13 events per 10,000 residents, the lowest rate in the ranking, and music festivals are nearly absent at 0.01 per 10,000 people. Although the city has more restaurants (16.21 per 10,000 residents) and nightlife options (7.83 per 10,000) than some other urban areas, these amenities are dispersed across a vast population, making organic connections more elusive.
Top-Ranked Cities and Expert Insights
At the opposite end of the spectrum, Blackpool, Gloucester, and Blackburn claimed the top three positions, followed by Hastings in fourth and Cheltenham in fifth. The remainder of the top ten includes Burnley, Southend-on-Sea, Lincoln, Newcastle upon Tyne, and Oxford.

The bottom five cities in the ranking are Edinburgh, Belfast, Glasgow City, London, and Dartford. This suggests that dating in larger, more prominent cities can present unexpected difficulties, despite their cultural and social offerings.
